With the delivery of the Volkswagen ID.3 the Autostadt has ushered in a new era: We deliver the world's first CO2-neutral vehicle produced by the Volkswagen Group with a CO2-neutral* footprint. This calculation also takes both the arrival and return journey of our customers into account. So no matter whether you're picking up a vehicle or simply visiting, you can learn more about environmentally-friendly measures for your own home at the ID. Studio.

Autostadt and sustainability

When you pick up the ID.3 at the Autostadt, the vehicle is already charged with Volkswagen Naturstrom®. It also ensures that the emissions produced during the arrival and return journey of guests are offset, creating a net-zero carbon footprint. We teamed up with the Wuppertal Institute to conduct visitor surveys and develop a concept for offsetting greenhouse gases. The Wuppertal Institute also supports us in developing an advanced strategy to prevent greenhouse gases and reduce resource consumption. Any CO2 emissions are offset through climate protection projects that are certified according to the Gold Standard. One of our first projects includes supporting our partner First Climate with a wind power project based in Tamil Nadu, India.

If you want to dive even deeper into the world of sustainability and electromobility when visiting the Autostadt, you've come to the right place. In the ID. Experience Studio, everything revolves around charging and the associated Volkswagen services designed for the home. Guests can discover for themselves how easy the ID. chargers are to use and learn more about the IONITY fast charging network, powered by 100 percent green electricity. The LEVEL GREEN exhibition allows visitors to experience visionary mobility concepts as well as find out what their individual CO₂ footprint looks like.

E-mobility and decarbonisation – the Autostadt as a "Smart Mobility Campus"

Electromobility and decarbonisation play a major role for the Autostadt. This not only applies when it comes to sharing knowledge with our visitors and customers, but also to our own operational processes. We provide exciting information on sustainability in exhibitions and allow our visitors to experience it in very practical terms in many places throughout the park – for example, through our organic catering, during test drives or at various workshops. The Autostadt switched its entire power supply to green electricity back in 2013. Since then, we have continuously identified and implemented CO2 reduction measures in our push for decarbonisation and environmental and energy management.

* Wherever possible, CO2 emissions are prevented and reduced directly at Volkswagen. CO2 emissions that are not prevented at Volkswagen and during arrivals and departures are offset by certified climate protection projects.
