Exhibition in the ZeitHaus

Related Rides, the exhibition in the ZeitHaus, has a double meaning. Much like the relationships between people, automotive history is full of related car models. In some cases, the chemistry is just right. In others it is less than perfect. The Autostadt showcases automotive pairs and a few trios with obvious, and sometimes surprising, similarities.

The exhibition includes unmatched pairs, whose relationships stem from their background or innovative significance. For example, the Volkswagen Golf Cabrio and Golf Country pioneered two new vehicle categories in 1980 and 1990 that became successful in the 21st century. One is a four-passenger convertible with front-wheel drive. The other is an SUV (special utility vehicle) with all-wheel drive, which is also known as a "crossover" because it combines the attributes of two or more vehicle types.

Some Related Rides are notable for their technological aspects, for example, the use of turbochargers in passenger cars. The ZeitHaus brings together three models that served as trendsetters in the development of what is today a standard approach to boosting power output.

What is the link between the Alfasud and DeLorean? These two Related Rides were created by the "Designer of the 20th Century", Giorgetto Giugiaro, founder of the Italdesign design studio.

And what do the Borgward Isabella and BMW 1500 have in common? Find out on your next visit to the ZeitHaus!
